How often should you really be washing your sheets?

How often do you change your sheets? If your answer was ‘not often enough,’ we’re right there with you. But it doesn’t have to be that way.

We know it’s hard. Life gets busy, social plans start piling up, and deadlines become ever-more looming. How can someone expect to keep up with a sheet rotating schedule in the middle of all this?

But let’s be honest. Is there really anything better in this world than jumping into a bed made with freshly washed sheets?

So, if you only get around to tossing those sheets into the wash when you notice a smell, this guide is for you. It’s time to take back our bedtime comfort. First, we want to talk about why you should be changing your sheets regularly.

A better night’s sleep could be at stake.

According to a study conducted by the National Sleep Foundation, 71% of people say they have a better night’s sleep with freshly washed sheets. Clean sheets have been found to improve comfort while sleeping, meaning less time tossing and turning and more time reveling in that hard-earned beauty sleep.

Dirty sheets could be making your allergies worse.

For those who suffer from allergies or asthma, not washing your sheets regularly could make things worse. Bedsheets store irritants like dead skin cells, sweat, dust mites, pet dander, and pollen. Not washing these things out regularly could trigger allergies or even illness. Wondering what else may be lingering on your sheets? Check out our blog Facts and Myths: The Truth about Microbes.

So, how often should I be changing my sheets?

We suggest changing your sheets at least once a week for maximum cleanliness. If you sweat a lot at night (hey, we aren’t judging!) or have pets that warm your chilly toes at night, you might want to consider even more frequently than that. LinenFit’s Cool Dry Comfort line is also a good option for those who tend to overheat while sleeping; 100% microfiber yarns and ComforDry Cooling Technology wick moisture away from the body. But don’t let that be a substitute for the washing machine!

Bed sheets should be washed with hot water (unless your bedding care instructions say otherwise) to ensure any bacteria and dust mites are fully eliminated. We also recommend drying sheets in a dryer and ironing to ensure they stay wrinkle-free before even making it to the bed. Don’t forget the accomplices.

While bed sheets tend to steal the show when talking about bedroom cleanliness, making sure your pillows and duvets get the love they deserve is just as important. Check to make sure these items are machine washable. If they are, we recommend tossing them in the wash with hot water at least every six months or as described on the care label.

No matter what your sleeping style is, LinenFit’s patented technology not only helps your sheets stay put all night but makes our them incredibly easy to put on. So, changing your sheets doesn’t have to be something you lose sleep over.
